Husky alum Dan Walsh won a bronze medal at the Olympics in Beijing Sunday after the United States heavyweight eight crew finished third in the A-Final. Walsh's boat finished with a time of 5:25.34, behind winner Canada and runner-up Great Britain. Marshall Godschalk, rowing for the Netherlands, finished in sixth in the lightweight four finals, finishing with a time of 5:54.06. Walsh, an eight-year member of the U.S. Senior National team, rowed for Northeastern from 1998-2002 while Godschalk rowed for Northeastern from 2004-07.

Northeastern will have two rowers going for gold Olympics this weekend as Marshall Godschalk's Netherlands lightweight four placed third in its semifinal on Friday morning to qualify for the A-final on Sunday in China. That same morning, former Husky Dan Walsh will be rowing in the A-final of the heavyweight eight for the United States. Walsh's U.S. eight won its repechage on Tuesday to advance.

Walsh and Godschalk's crews advance
Husky alum Dan Walsh helped the United States heavyweight eight advance to the final with a win in its repechage race and former Northeastern rower Marshall Godschalk helped his Netherlands lightweight four advance to the semifinals with a runner-up repechage finish early Tuesday morning in China. The repechage race is a second-chance for crews to advance. Godschalk's semifinal was rained out Thursday morning and will be made up later. Walsh will be in the final on Sunday.

Huskies row at Olympics in Beijing
Former Huskies Dan Walsh and Marshall Godschalk have begun competition in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Walsh rowed in the U.S. heavyweight eight boat that placed second in its heat on Monday. Great Britain won the heat in 5:25.89 and the U.S. came in next at 5:29.60. Godschalk rowed in the lightweight four without for the Netherlands, which placed fourth in its heat on Sunday. Zara Northover, formerly of the women's track team, will compete in the shot put starting on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Godschalk named to Dutch Olympic team
Marshall Godschalk, who rowed for Northeastern from 2004-07, has been chosen to represent the Netherlands in the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing. Godschalk will be rowing in the three seat in the Olympic lightweight four without the coxswain. Godschalk is the third Northeastern alum to participate in the 2008 summer games along with Dan Walsh and Zara Northover.

NU alum Walsh named 2008 Olympian
Dan Walsh, a 2002 Northeastern graduate, has been named to the mens heavyweight eight team for the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, where the crew will try to defend its gold medal. He competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials June 23-26 on Mercer Lake in New Jersey. Walsh was an alternate at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Walsh rowed for Northeastern from 1998-2001.

NU places fourth at IRA Championship
The Huskies placed fourth in the Grand Final on Sat., June 7, at the 2008 IRA Championship Regatta on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. Northeastern, seeded seventh, posted a time of 5:42.399, which was behind Wisconsin, Washington and California, but ahead of Stanford and Columbia. The second varsity crew finished second in the Petite Final, while the freshman crew came in third in the Petite Final.
