Men's crew finishes seventh at IRA

The Northeastern men's crew team took seventh place at the 2006 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Regatta, winning the Petite Final on the Cooper River course in Camden, New Jersey with a time of 5:43.61, a half-length ahead of Syracuse (5:45.41) and Wisconsin (5:45.91). California won the regatta with a time of 5:37.71 in the Grand Final.

On Thursday, the Huskies finished second in their preliminary heat with a time of 5:45.55 behind Brown's 5:41.23, giving them an automatic bid into the semi-finals.

In Friday's semi-finals, NU (5:49.84) finished fourth behind Yale (5:45.88), California (5:46.4) and Harvard (5:49.52). Yale, who was ranked fourth in the race behind the Huskies, pulled out a surprising victory in the race and prevented NU from reaching Saturday's Grand Final.

On Saturday, NU won the Petite finial to take seventh place at the IRA, finishing a half-length ahead of their nearest competitors, Syracuse and Wisconsin.

The second varsity finished fifth in their IRA race, while the freshman boat took eigth place in theirs.

The men's crew team finished the regular season regatta with a record of 3-2. They finished fourth at the Eastern Sprints and third in the Rowe Cup.
