The Northeastern men’s crew team lost to three-time defending national champion Harvard in the 18th rowing of the Smith Cup on the choppy 2,000 meter course of the Charles River.

The Crimson took an early deck length lead at the 500 and built it to a six-seat lead at 1,000. Enjoying the Cambridge shore lane and quieter water, they held a two-length lead at 1,5000 and finished ahead by four lengths. The Crimson were clocked at 5:44.6 to the Huskies’ 5:59.1.

Harvard now leads the Smith Cup 15-3 and leads the series record 24-4. The Huskies, who stand at 2-2 on the season, will meet Pennsylvania next Saturday on the Schuykill River in the 37th rowing of the Burk Cup.
