Huskies place fourth at IRA Championship

The men's crew team wrapped up three days of rowing in addition to its 2008 season by placing fourth in the Grand Final at the 2008 IRA Championship Regatta on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J., on Saturday.

The Huskies finished with a time of 5:42.399, which put them behind Wisconsin (5:31.173), Washington (5:32.894) and California (5:39.021), but ahead of Stanford (5:43.324) and Columbia (5:44.565). Last year, NU finished in 11th overall. This is the best placing for a Northeastern varsity eight crew since 1993, when the Huskies took third.

The second varsity crew finished second in the Petite Final with a time of 5:50.142. It was second only to Cornell (5:46.716). Last year, the crew came in 11th overall, fifth in the Petite Final.

As for the freshman crew, it came in third in the Petite Final with a time of 5:53.644, behind Stanford (5:46.967) and Wisconsin (5:49.564). Last year, the crew placed seventh overall, first in the Petite Final.
