Northeastern completed competition in the Redwood Shores Rowing Classic with a resounding eight-length win over Orange Coast College Sunday afternoon. NU completed the race in 6:00.3 to Orange Coast's 6:23.7. The Huskies next race will be on the Charles River Saturday, April 11 as they take on Boston University in the Arlett Cup. The varsity race will begin at 9:24 a.m.

NU splits first day
Northeastern opened the racing season by going 1-1 on the first day of the Redwood Shores Rowing Classic in Redwood City, CA. In the first race, NU suffered a five-second loss to Stanford, but pulled out a four length victory later in the day against Gonzaga. The Redwood Shores Rowing Classic concludes tomorrow, with the Huskies racing a yet to be determined opponent at 1 p.m. EST.

Huskies release 2009 schedule
The Huskies have announced their schedule for the 2009 season, which includes six races before the Eastern Sprints and IRA Regatta. The Huskies will open the season in California Saturday, March 28-Sunday, March 29 by competing against Stanford and California in the Redwood Shores Rowing Classic. The team will then come back to the Charles for the Arlett Cup against Boston University before traveling to Rhode Island to take on Brown in the Dreissigacker Cup. They will also face Pennsylvania in the Burke Cup, and Harvard in the Smith Cup.

Huskies at Head of Charles Regatta
The Huskies participated in the 44th rowing of the Head of the Charles Regatta this past weekend. The Huskies finished second in the club eights row with a time of 15:09.352, second only to Harvard. In the championship eights row, Northeastern placed fourth with a time of 14:42.169, 14 seconds behind winner Washington.

Dan Walsh honored for bronze medal
Dan Walsh, Class of 2002, has been honored several times since returning home from the Olympics in Beijing. Walsh rowed on the United States eight that won the bronze medal on Aug. 17. He threw out a ceremonial pitch before the Red Sox game on Monday, was honored at a breakfast with Northeastern staff on Tuesday and will be featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Monday, Sept. 8. After touring the country, Walsh will permanently display his bronze medal at NU's Henderson Boathouse.

Walsh wins bronze, Godschalk sixth in Olympics
Husky alum Dan Walsh won a bronze medal at the Olympics in Beijing on Sunday after the United States heavyweight eight crew finished third in the A-Final. Walsh's boat finished with a time of 5:25.34, behind winner Canada and runner-up Great Britain. Marshall Godschalk, rowing for the Netherlands, finished in sixth in the lightweight four finals, finishing with a time of 5:54.06. Walsh rowed for Northeastern from 1998-2002 and Godschalk rowed for NU from 2004-07.

Northeastern will have two rowers going for gold Olympics this weekend as Marshall Godschalk's Netherlands lightweight four placed third in its semifinal on Friday morning to qualify for the A-final on Sunday in China. That same morning, former Husky Dan Walsh will be rowing in the A-final of the heavyweight eight for the United States. Walsh's U.S. eight won its repechage on Tuesday to advance.

Walsh and Godschalk's crews advance
Husky alum Dan Walsh helped the United States heavyweight eight advance to the final with a win in its repechage race and former Northeastern rower Marshall Godschalk helped his Netherlands lightweight four advance to the semifinals with a runner-up repechage finish early Tuesday morning in China. The repechage race is a second-chance for crews to advance. Godschalk's semifinal was rained out Thursday morning and will be made up later. Walsh will be in the final on Sunday.
