CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Boston College scored five unanswered goals to take a 6-3 victory over Northeastern Thursday night. The win clinched the Hockey Eastr regular season championship for the third-ranked Eagles. Brian Gionta led BC with a pair of goals. Brett Peterson had a goal and an assist and Marty Hughes two assists for the Eagles who improve to 25-8-2, 16-5-2 in Hockey East. NU drops to 13-16-4, 7-12-4 in HE. The Huskies will play their final game of the regular season Saturday night at home against UMass-Lowell. NU took a 2-1 lead early in the second period, but BC scored the next five goals to take command. Chris Lynch put the Huskies ahead 2-1 at 1:30 of the second on a slap shot from just inside the blueline that fooled BC goalie Scott Clemmensen (21 saves). But after that, BC would dominate the period. Gionta tied the game at 2:41 when he got to a loose puck and beat Braun up top. BC took the lead at 15:48 on Ty Hennes's second goal of the season when he stuffed in a rebound. Chuck Kobasew scored the fourth BC goal. NU failed to clear the puck and Kobasew skated in on Braun and fired a slap shot that got by Braun five-hole at 17:49. In the second period, BC outshot NU 18-4. The Eagles picked up in the third where they left off in the second, getting goals from Gionta, at 7:05, and Peterson at 8:45 to build the lead to 6-2. A pair of NU freshmen got together for the Huskies third goal, as Eric Ortlip fed Trevor Reschny in front for Reschny's sixth goal of the season at 12:18. Jason Braun made a career-high 39 saves for the Huskies. The game started off on the right note for NU. Graig Mischler continued his outstanding play with his ninth goal of the season at 3:51 of the first period when he got to the rebound of a Mike Ryan shot and beat Clemmensen on the backhand. The goal extended Mischler's point streak to nine games, and gave him 40 points for the season. He is the first Husky since Jordon Shields in 1995-96 to have 40 points in a season. BC tied the game in the final minute of the first period. On the power-play, Jeff Giuliano tipped in a slap shot from Bobby Allen at 19:30. It was Giuliano's 11th goal of the season.
