| 2000-01 Schedule/Results Northeastern 5, Wisconsin 4 (OT)
BOSTON, MA — Scott Selig’s goal with just 1:16 left in overtime gave Northeastern a 5-4 victory over number one-ranked Wisconsin Saturday night at Matthews Arena. It was Wisconsin’s first loss of the season (7-1-0) and the third straight victory for the Huskies (4-1-0). Mike Ryan dug the puck out from behind the Wisconsin net and Jim Fahey fired a shot on goal. Selig skated free in front, and redirected the Fahey blast past UW goalie Graham Melanson for the winning score. It was Selig’s fourth goal of his freshman season. NU led 4-2 when Mike Jozefowicz was whistled for interference at 17:35 of the third. On the power-play, UW’s Dany Heatley scored at 18:27. Then at 19:45, Kent Davyduke won a faceoff in the NU zone for the Badgers and got the puck back to Jeff Dessner. Dessner’s slap shot then beat Mike Gilhooly to tie the game at four with only 15 seconds to play in regulation. The win over Wisconsin was NU’s fourth win in the past two seasons against teams ranked number one in the country. Northeastern got on the board first, when Joe Mastronardi stuffed the puck past Melanson 1:12 into the game. Matt Hussey tied the game for the Badgers at 2:50. The Huskies would score twice in the second on goals by Trevor Reschny and Mike Ryan. Wisconsin came within one, 3-2, when Matt Murray’s pass deflected off the back of NU defender Brian Sullivan into the NU net at 17:25 of the second. Ryan added his second goal of the night on assists from his linemates Graig Mischler and Selig, to give the Huskies a 4-2 lead at 9:55 of the third. The Huskies hung on to the 4-2 advantage until the closing minutes. NU never trailed in the game, and limited a Wisconsin team that was averaging over 40 shots a game to 24. Gilhooly made 20 stops for the Huskies and Melanson 26 for the Badgers. After playing the top team in the country, NU next plays second-ranked Boston College, followed by a game against seventh-ranked Maine and then 11th-ranked Boston University. Wisconsin (7-1) vs. Northeastern (4-1)
