BOSTON, MA – Third-ranked Boston College outshot visiting Northeastern 37-15 and rolled to a 6-3 win over the Huskies at Conte Forum on Friday night. Mike Lephart scored a pair of goals to lead the way for the Eagles.

The Huskies trailed 3-1 heading into the final period and the deficit grew to three goals when Brian Gionta scored at 7:31 of the final frame. Ryan Dudgeon tallied for the Huskies at 9:07 and John Peterman netted a goal just 46 seconds later to get the Huskies within one, down 4-3. But Lephart scored at 12:40 and Tony Voce put the game away when he beat Jason Braun (31 saves) at 16:33. NU is now 1-1 in Hockey East play, while BC improved to 2-0.

The defenses dominated the play in the second period, with neither team scoring. NU had a great chance at 9:03 when Chris Lynch broke in all alone and fired a shot past BC goalie Scott Clemmensen (12 saves). But the goal was disallowed as Willie Levesque was whistled for being offsides.

BC raced out to a 3-1 advantage in the first period. Sophomore Krys Kolanos continued his hot streak versus the Huskies with a goal at 5:23. It was Kolanos’s ninth goal in seven games against NU. With Graig Mischler in the penalty box for interference, Lephart took a pass from Gionta and scored to put the Eagles on top 2-0 at 7:42. Rich Spiller put NU on the board at 10:07. Trevor Reschny put a shot on goal from the left boards that deflected to Spiller along the right boards. Spiller immediately returned fire for the goal. But Jeff Guiliano put the Eagles on top by two again with a goal at 15:02.

NU returns home on Saturday to host ninth-ranked Maine (7 p.m.).
