BOSTON, MA — The Northeastern University men’s hockey team won its second consecutive 4-1 game over a team from the ECAC with a victory Saturday night at Matthews Arena against St. Lawrence. NU had defeated Clarkson on Friday night, also by a score of 4-1.

Senior Chris Lynch (Duxbury, MA) had a career-high three assists and freshmen Jon Awe (Memphis, TN) and Jared Mudryk (Leduc, ALB) both scored their first collegiate goals. Senior Jason Braun (Fruitport, MI) earned the victory in net, making 24 saves.

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead at 4:47 of the first period. Jaron Herriman (Sault Ste. Marie, ONT) skated around the SLU net and sent the puck to the point, where Awe fired a slap shot that beat Saints’ goalie Kevin Ackley (Fergus Falls, MN) for the score. NU’s lead grew to 2-0 when Eric Ortlip (St. Louis, MO) scored his fourth goal of the year, coming on the power-play. Ortlip sent home a rebound of an Awe shot at 16:04 of the first.

The Saints managed to cut the lead in half when Josh Anderson (Fergus Falls, MN) had the puck behind the NU net and passed it through the crease to Blair Clarance (Stratford, ONT). The junior then sent home his sixth goal of the season at 17:57.

After a scoreless second period, Northeastern sealed the win with a pair of third period goals. Lynch skated to a loose puck in front of the SLU net. He was able to get it to Mudryk in front who slid the puck through Ackley’s pads for his first career score at 5:54. Just 50 seconds later, NU scored its fourth goal. Mike Ryan (Milton, MA) and Jason Guerriero (Manorville, NY) worked together to force an SLU turnover in its own end. Ryan tipped a loose puck to Guerriero who was to Ackley’s right. Guerriero drew the goaltender to him and then sent it back to Ryan who scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Ryan now has six goals in three career games versus St. Lawrence.

In three games with St. Lawrence over the last two seasons, NU has outshot the Saints 124-70.

Ackley finished with 32 saves for the game. Tim Hall (Pt. Jefferson Station, NY) played the game’s final 4:08 in goal for the Saints and made one save.

Northeastern has won six of its last seven games against teams from the ECAC. The Huskies next play against another ECAC school, on Tuesday at Princeton.
