LOWELL, MA - The Northeastern men's hockey completed the weekend sweep of third-ranked UMass-Lowell on Sunday with a 5-1 victory Sunday night at Tsongas Arena. NU defeated Lowell 5-3 on Friday night at Matthews Arena.

The Huskies are on a five game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) with all five games coming against nationally ranked teams. NU is now 12-9-3, 6-6-2 in Hockey East while Lowell falls to 16-5-1, 8-4-1 in Hockey East.

Northeastern outscored Lowell on the weekend 10-3, receiving five goals from five different players in both games.

NU got on the board in the first period on the power-play. Jason Guerriero (Manorville, NY) had the puck behind the Lowell net and fed Mike Ryan in the right slot. Ryan's blast beat UML goalie Jimi St. John (Windsor, ONT) top shelf stick side at 10:15. It was Ryan's team-leading 16th goal of the season. NU added to its lead in the closing seconds of the opening period. Eric Ortlip (St. Louis, MO) broke up the play in the neutral zone and poked the puck to Leon Hayward (Seattle, WA). The senior broke in alone and beat St. John with only 15 seconds left in the first period. It was Hayward's fifth of the season.

In Friday night's game, NU led 2-0 after one only to see Lowell score three times in the second period. In this game, however, it would NU scoring three times in the second to take control of the game. At 5:27, Arik Engbrecht (Winnipeg, MAN) passed to freshman Jaron Herriman (Sault Ste. Marie, ONT), who skated in alone on St. John. Herriman's shot banged off the underside of the crossbar and into the net for his third goal of the year. At 7:00, NU added its fourth goal. On the power-play, Tim Judy (Bowie, MD) controlled the puck at the right point and crossed it to Fahey, whose one-timer banged off the far post and into the net for his 12th goal of the year. The Huskies' third goal of the period came while shorthanded at 12:22. Ortlip forced a turnover in the Lowell end and fired a wrist shot from between the faceoff circles that beat St. John for his sixth of the year.

The River Hawks got on the board at 3:26 of the third period while on the power-play. Josh Reed (Vernon, BC) flipped the puck off the boars and his pass hit Anders Strome (Winnipeg, MAN) in stride just as Strome crossed the blueline and skated in alone on NU goalie Keni Gibson (Stittsville, ONT). Strome waited for Gibson to go down and beat the freshman high for his ninth of the season.

NU's sweep of Lowell guarantees the Huskies will win the season series from Lowell for the first time since 1995. The Huskies had lost six straight season series to UML and nine of the last 10 before this season. The 5-1 victory was the first time since a 6-2 win over UNH Feb. 11, 2000 that NU won a Hockey East game by four goals.

The Huskies return to action next Friday night against UMass-Amherst at Matthews Arena.
