BOSTON, MA — Boston College defeated Northeastern 7-2 on Friday night at Matthews Arena in front of 2,832 fans. The loss ends NU’s six-game unbeaten streak at home. BC led the game 2-0 on a pair of first-period goals by senior Ales Dolinar (Northport, N.Y) and then broke it open with three scores in less than five minutes during the second period. Senior captain Jeff Giuliano (Nashua, NH) also scored two goals and added an assist The Eagles improve to 17-14-2, 9-11-1 in Hockey East while NU drops to 17-13-3, 10-9-2 in Hockey East. Dolinar got things going for BC at 8:45. With the Huskies on the power-play, NU goalie Keni Gibson (Stittsville, ONT) came out of net to play the puck. His pass up the center of the ice was intercepted by Dolinar who fired a shot into the empty net before Gibson could recover. Dolinar made it 2-0 Eagles at 12:40 when he took a pass in the right slot from Giuliano and banged home his second of the night. Trailing 2-0, the Huskies kept most of the action in the BC end over the first half of the second period but were unable to capitalize. Giuliano then swung the momentum back to the Eagles with a goal at 13:43. He skated up ice and moved around a Northeastern defenseman and fired a low wrist shot that beat Gibson glove side. BC then added two more goals before the end of the period. Tony Voce (Philadelphia, PA) scored his 23rd of the season at 15:50 from John Adams (Wayzata, MN) and Ben Eaves (Faribault, MN). Following BC’s fourth goal, NU switched goalies, putting in Jason Braun (Fruitport, MI). It was the first time since Dec. 19 at Union that a goalie other than Gibson had been between the pipes for the Huskies. BC was able to add another before the end of the period when Ty Hennes (Kent, WA) scored his third of the season at 18:22 from Ryan Murphy (Rumson, NJ) and Anthony D’Arpino (Johnston, RI). The Eagles added two more in the third for a 7-0 lead. Giuliano scored his second of the game, a power-play goal at 1:44 and Dave Spina (Mesa, AZ) scored BC’s final goal at 3:35. The Huskies finally cracked the scoreboard at 7:16 when Willie Levesque (Vineyard Haven, MA) scored a power-play goal. Joe Mastronardi (Vestal, NY) had NU’s other goal, at 8:48. Gibson made seven saves on the night and Braun had five. BC goalie Tim Kelleher (Belmont, MA) had 25 saves in earning his 10th win of the season. It is only the third time all season NU has lost back-to-back games and the first time since Nov. 10 and 16. The Huskies dropped their previous game last Saturday night at UNH. The Huskies' last home loss came Jan. 4, 3-2 against Boston University. The same two teams will battle again on Sunday at Conte Forum. The 3 p.m. game will be televised live on Fox Sports New England.
