| 2001-02 Schedule/Results UMass-Amherst 4, Northeastern 2
AMHERST, MA - The Northeastern men's hockey team lost at UMass-Amherst on Saturday night 4-2 in front of 3341 fans at the Mullins Center in Amherst. The Minutemen came back from a 2-1 deficit in the second period for the win. Down 2-1, Thomas Pock (Klagenfurt, Austria) fired a slap shot from the right wing for the game-tying goal at 4:11 on the power-play. Toni Soderholm (Helsinki, Finland) and Martin Miljko (Etobicoke, ONT) assisted on the play. UMass then took the lead for good with under a minute to play in the second period. Greg Mauldin (Holliston, MA) poked in the puck after a scramble in front of the Northeastern net at 19:06. It was the freshman Mauldin's first career goal. UMass sealed the win with an empty-net goal by Tim Turner (Saginaw, MI) with just 19 seconds to play in the game. The Huskies fall to 2-4-2, 1-2-1 in Hockey East while the Minutemen improve to 3-3-0, 2-1-0 in Hockey East. UMass got on the board first, just 1:03 into the game. Graig MacDonald took a pass from Turner in the slot and shot the puck past NU goalie Mile Gilhooly (Calgary, ALB). After falling behind 1-0, the Huskies would then turn the momentum in their favor. On the power-play at 12:12 of the first period, senior captain Jim Fahey snuck up from his position on the point and took a pass from Jason Guerriero (Manorville, NY). Fahey put a blast on net for his team-leading seventh-goal of the season. Fahey leads the Huskies with seven goals and 14 points in eight games. NU then took the lead less than three minutes later. Guerriero took control of the puck behind the UMass net. He passed off to Willie Levesque (Vineyard Haven, MA) to the left of the net. Levesque quickly saw an open Mike Ryan (Milton, MA) who finished the play with his fifth goal of the season at 15:08. Guerriero, who leads the team with 10 assists, now has at least one point in six straight games, and in seven of eight games this season. Ryan has a point in five straight games, every game he has played in this season. Junior Brian Sullivan (Marshfield, MA) made his season debut for the Huskies. The defenseman missed the first seven games of the season after separating his left shoulder in an exhibition game against Western Ontario Oct. 5. With Sullivan in the lineup, NU skated less than four freshman defensemen for the first time all season. Freshman blueliners Jon Awe (Memphis, TN), Donny Grover (Rockland, MA) and Tim Judy (Bowie, MD) were in the lineup. Gilhooly played the first two periods in net for the Huskies, finishing with nine saves. Jason Braun (Fruitport, MI) came on in relief to start the third period, and made eight saves without allowing a goal. Mike Johnson went the distance for the Minutemen, making 18 stops. NU has yet to post a victory away from Matthews Arena this season, with an 0-4-1 mark on the road. The Huskies play a home-and-home series with Providence next weekend, beginning with a game at PC on Friday night. Northeastern (2-4-2, 1-2-1) vs. UMass Amherst (3-3-0, 2-1-0)
