Sophomore Bobby Robins had a goal and two assists to lead UMass Lowell past host Northeastern, 5-2, in Hockey East action at Matthews Arena Friday night.

The River Hawks evened their overall record to 2-2-2 and league record to 1-1, while the Huskies dropped to 0-4-1 and 0-2 in the HEA.

NU outshot Lowell, 33-19, but had trouble finishing. The Huskies outshot the River Hawks, 19-4, in the first period, yet the game was tied at 1 at first intermission. It was also the fourth time in five games NU has outshot its opponent.

"I thought we came out pretty hard," said NU coach Bruce Crowder. "I thought that overall our play was good at times. We were pretty solid in a lot of areas. We've just got to keep plugging. The good thing about hockey is that we can go back tomorrow and redeem ourselves."

Lowell got on board first off an own goal, when Danny O'Brien knocked the puck toward the net and it went into the Northeastern goal off freshman goalie Adam Geragosian's skate 23 seconds into play. Geragosian (14 saves) was making his collegiate debut.

"I think this was a big start for him, but I'm sure he'd like to have a few of those back," said Crowder.

Sophomore Brian Swiniarski evened the game for the Huskies, knocking in his own rebound two minutes into the game. Northeastern continued its onslaught throughout the period, but couldn't slip another one past UML goalie Chris Davidson (31 saves).

"The first period we took it to them pretty good and (Chris) Davidson was excellent in net," said Crowder.

NU jumped ahead 2-1 only 26 seconds into the second period with a Jason Guerriero power-play goal. It was Guerriero's first goal of the season. Yale Lewis and Tim Judy assisted on the play.

The Huskies surrendered four unanswered goals to end the game, including a score from Peter Tomey with 1:02 left in the second to put the River Hawks up 3-2 before second intermission.

Lowell opened the third period with a goal from Andrew Martin only 50 seconds into the third period for a 4-2 advantage. UML would add an insurance goal at the 11:23 mark. Bobby McCabe scored a power-play goal after NU's Pat Noonan was sent off for a five-minute major for hitting from behind.
