| 2004-05 Schedule/Results New Hampshire 7, Northeastern 4
The Huskies took a 4-3 lead into the final period but couldn't hold it as New Hampshire came back to beat the Huskies, 7-4, at Matthews Arena on Saturday night. Ray Ortiz had two second-period goals, including a short-handed, breakaway goal and goalie Keni Gibson made 30 saves. Northeastern falls to 5-5-1 overall and 2-2 in Hockey East play while the sixth-ranked Wildcats improve to 8-2-1 and 5-1 in Hockey East. "They really took one away from us," said Husky head coach Bruce Crowder. "We had a 4-3 lead and had some great opportunities in the first four minutes of the third period, but we couldn't get the fifth goal. They kept playing hard and came back." New Hampshire got a goal and two assists from Matt Fornataro and got two goals, including and empty-netter, from Josh Ciocco. Ortiz got the second period started off with a score on assists by Yale Lewis and Jared Mudryk. That tied the score at 2-2 4:48 into the second. Robbie Barker got the lead back for the Wildcats at 7:00. Ortiz scored a shorthanded goal 16:11 into the second period to tie the score at 3-3. He got the puck in the Husky zone and took it all the way down the ice for the score. It was NU's first shorthanded goal in over a year. NU's last shorthanded goal was scored by Brian Tudrick at Maine Nov. 14, 2003. The Wildcats broke out with four goals in the third period to seal the victory. With NU leading, 4-3, Mark Koanos scored to tie it at 6:29. Brett Hemingway added another at 8:14 to give UNH a 5-4 lead. Daniel Winnick added an insurance goal at 17:35 to make it 6-4 and Ciocco scored an empty netter with under a second remaining. New Hampshire scored first for the second night in a row when Josh Ciocco netted a goal at 5:21 in the first period. Chris Murray and Mike Radja got assists on the play. The Huskies came right back to tie it 1-1 on a Brian Swiniarski power-play goal less than a minute later. Swiniarski took a feed from Jason Guerriero and punched it in from the left side at 6:12. New Hampshire took a 2-1 lead when Fornataro scored at 17:37 in the first period. The Huskies outshot UNH, 41-37. NU went 1-3 on power-plays while the Wildcats scored two power-play goals in five opportunities. Northeastern looks to get back on the winning track on Tuesday as it travels to Merrimack for a game at 7 p.m. The Huskies host Boston College next Saturday at 7 p.m. New Hampshire (8-2-1, 5-1-0) vs. Northeastern (5-5-1, 2-2-0)
