| 2004-05 Schedule/Results Northeastern 5, Merrimack 1
Jason Guerriero set up three first period goals, Brian Swiniarski had two goals and an assist and Joe Santilli had a goal and two assists as Northeastern beat Merrimack 5-1 at Lawler Arena on Tuesday. It the third three-assist game of Guerriero's career as Northeastern improved to 6-5-1 overall and 3-2-0 in Hockey East. Merrimack fell to 3-9-0 and 1-7-0. The Huskies got on the board immediately when Santilli scored just 41 seconds into the game. Guerriero shot from the right side and it was saved by Warrior starting goalie Frank McLaughlin, but Santilli was right there to hit the rebound past McLaughlin. The Huskies had a great chance to score short-handed just over seven minutes into the game when Bryan Esner and Jared Mudryk had a 2-on-1. Esner passed to Mudryk, who was all alone on the left side. Mudryk took a hard shot but McLaughlin came up with a great save. Merrimack couldn't keep the Huskies quiet, however, as NU made it 2-0 on a power-play 9:50 into the first. Guerriero passed it to Steve Birnstill and Birnstill netted the goal from the point. It was Birnstill's second goal of the season. Guerriero set up another goal before the first period was over when he made a perfect pass to Swiniarski, who netted the goal at 17:56. It was Swiniarski's third goal in the last four games. Merrimack pulled McLaughlin after the first period and replaced him with Jim Healey. Merrimack got on the board 5:55 into the second period when Rob LaLonde scored. He took a pass from Mike Alexiou and shot it through traffic, off the pipe and into the net. The Huskies got their three-goal lead back at 5:31 in the third period. Carter Lee took a shot that Healey deflected to Mudryk, who netted the goal from the right side. It was Lee's first career assist and point. Just prior to the goal, Grover made a great defensive play, clearing a rebound that was trickling behind Husky goalie Keni Gibson. Brian Swiniarski got his second goal of the game at 11:58 in the third period to give NU a 5-1 lead. Santilli gathered a pass from Chuck Tomes and set up Swiniarski, who beat Healey for the score. The Huskies play Boston College on Saturday at Matthews Arena at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on CN8. Northeastern (6-5-1;3-2-0) vs. Merrimack (3-9-0;1-7-0)
