| 2004-05 Schedule/Results Vermont 2, Northeastern 0
The Huskies held it close before letting up an empty-netter with 31 seconds remaining as they lost to Vermont, 2-0 on Saturday before a sold out crowd of 4,003 at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt. Vermont extended the nation's longest unbeaten streak at 11-games (8-0-3). Husky goalie Keni Gibson made 19 saves and allowed just one goal in the defeat. The Huskies fall to 6-7-1 on the season while Vermont improves to 9-4-3. Northeastern dips below .500 for the first time since Oct. 30. Vermont scored first when right winger Jeff Corey got the puck from line-mate Torrey Mitchell and took a wide open shot from the right side that went behind Gibson at 10:35 in the first. With the momentum in the Catamounts' favor, Bryan Esner took a high sticking penalty at 11:13 in the first period. The Huskies battled off Vermont's threat and killed the penalty. Gibson made an excellent glove save on a Scott Misfud shot at 12:11 to keep it 1-0. With five minutes left in the first, Vermont's Mike Arcieri and Evan Stuflet both were penalized, giving NU a 5-on-3 advantage. The Huskies took several solid shots but couldn't capitalize on the advantage. The Huskies held that momentum through the end of the first but couldn't find the net and went into the first intermission down, 1-0. Vermont outshot NU 11-10 in the first. The Huskies dominated play in the second period, outshooting the Catamounts 11-5, but still couldn't find the net. Jared Mudryk had a short-handed breakaway early in the second but was stifled by UVM's Sifers and couldn't get a shot off. Sifers was called for slashing on the play at 3:39. Sifers was called for elbowing Mudryk at 7:07. The Huskies came up empty on both power-plays. Mike Morris had two excellent scoring opportunities in the latter half of the second period. At 14:40, Morris took a shot from the right side that deflected off the post behind Vermont goalie Joe Fallon. Morris got off a rocket shot at 15:40 that got by Fallon but it went off the crossbar and the Huskies still trailed 1-0 after the second. The Huskies continued to pressure the Vermont defense in the third period but couldn't find a hole. With just under two minutes remaining, Jason Guerriero dished the puck to Morris and Morris got a solid shot off but Fallon made the save. The Huskies were whistled for five penalties in the period while Vermont was penalized four times. Vermont sealed the victory with 31 seconds remaining when Scott Mifsud scored an empty-netter as the Huskies tried to tie it. NU is back in action when it travels to Boston College for a game with the Eagles on Friday at 7 p.m. The Huskies host UMass Lowell on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Matthews Arena.
