| 2004-05 Schedule/Results Northeastern 6, Providence 0
Senior goalie Keni Gibson made his 100th game a memorable one as he shut out Providence, 6-0, on Saturday night at Matthews Arena. NU's freshman class shined as Carter Lee scored the first two goals of his career, Josh Robertson had a goal and an assist, and Jason Blain had his first career assist. "It's always good to get it," said Gibson of his shutout. "It's always a good point in your career to have a shutout." Gibson made 21 saves for his first shutout of the season and extended his NU career record to seven shutouts. Northeastern improved to 8-11-3 overall and 4-6-2 in Hockey East with the win while Providence fell to 6-13-3 and 2-9-3. Northeastern sits in a three-way tie for fifth in the Hockey East standings as Massachusetts lost to Maine, 5-2, and UMass Lowell beat Merrimack, 5-2. "Any time you get three out of four Hockey East points in a weekend, it's a good weekend," said Husky head coach Bruce Crowder. "Four would have been better but three out of four is good." Chuck Tomes scored the first goal of the game, which proved to be the game winner. He shot from the top of the left circle and got it past PC goalie David Cacciola with assists from Blain and Steve Sanders. Early in the second period the Huskies began to pull away. Robertson rifled a shot past Cacciola at 5:32 and senior Jared Mudryk added another goal less than a minute later when he took a pass from Brian Swiniarski and put it in the goal. Bryan Esner assisted on both Robertson and Mudryk's goals. Tim Judy scored the fourth Husky goal when he made a great deflection on a Robertson shot to make it 4-0 at 9:49 in the second. That goal prompted PC head coach Paul Pooley to pull Cacciola and replace him with freshman Tyler Sims. Cacciola made 10 saves. The third period was the Carter Lee show as he scored his first career goal when he ripped a shot past Sims from the right side and put the Huskies up, 5-0, at 5:20. Lee had another breakaway goal as the game wound down as he scored his second goal of the period and his career at 18:54. Both teams were scoreless on power plays with Providence going 0-3 and NU at 0-6. The Huskies outshot the Friars 30-21. NU travels to Chestnut Hill to take on Boston College next Friday at Conte Forum, then the Huskies host Merrimack on Saturday at Matthews Arena. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
