| 2004-05 Schedule/Results Northeastern 4, Merrimack 1
Seniors Tim Judy and Jason Guerriero each had a goal and two assists to lead Northeastern to a season-sweep of Merrimack with a 4-1 victory on Friday night at Matthews Arena. The game was scoreless after the first period but the Huskies made it 3-1 after the second and cruised to victory. Goalie Keni Gibson made 29 saves in the win. "I thought they had the edge in the first period," said Husky head coach Bruce Crowder. "Then they fell back on their legs a little bit in the second and we got the plays, with the short-handed goal and Jared Mudryk's goal." Northeastern improves to 13-14-4 and 8-8-3 in Hockey East, giving them 19 points in league, just 2 behind fifth-place UMass-Lowell, which beat BC on Friday. The loss drops Merrimack to 8-23-2 and 1-19-1 in Hockey East. Providence's win over Maine eliminated Merrimack from playoff contention. After a scoreless first period, Judy scored a short-handed goal to get the Huskies on the board. Guerriero and Judy barrelled toward the Merrimack net and Guerriero passed across to Judy, who netted the short-hander from the left side of the crease at 8:32 in the second. The goal extended Judy's career-best point streak to six games. He has three goals and six assists over that span after having just two goals and five assists in his previous 23 games. "He hit the crossbar tonight, too," said Crowder of Judy. "He's been a great asset all year long and now he's getting some points." Merrimack evened the score with a power-play goal from Brett Gough at 10:08 in the second. Bryan Schmidt took a shot that bounced around in front of the net before Gough put it in. Less than three minutes later the Huskies took the lead back for good Steve Birnstill slid a pass across the ice to Jared Mudryk to make the score 2-1 at 12:31. The Huskies weren't done, however, as Jimmy Russo netted his second goal of the season at 13:53 to give the Huskies a 3-1 advantage heading into the third. Russo grabbed the puck behind the net and came around to take the shot and score in front. A mere 2:54 into the final and frame the Huskies put the game out of reach. Judy ripped a shot from the right side that went off Guerriero's skate and into the net to make it 4-1. With the goal and two assists, Guerriero has 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points this season, which are the most since Jim Fahey had 46 points in 2001-02. Guerriero now has 138 career points, vaulting from 21st into 19th on Northeastern's all-time scoring list. The Huskies have won four of their last five games, with the only loss coming in the Beanpot final last Monday. They look to take that momentum into Saturday's action as they take on No. 8 New Hampshire at 7 p.m. at Matthews Arena. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
