| 2004-05 Schedule/Results Boston University 2, Northeastern 2
The Huskies trailed Boston University 2-1 heading into the third period, much like the last time NU and BU dueled, but the outcome was different this time, as Mike Morris notched the game-tying goal 51 seconds into the third and the Huskies tied the Terriers, 2-2, on Wednesday night at Matthews Arena. Husky goalie Keni Gibson made 36 saves, including several key stops in overtime. BU's David Van der Gulik scored both of BU's goals. With a minute left in overtime, the scenario once again seemed similar to the Beanpot final as BU's Chris Bourque fired a shot through traffic but Gibson made a spectacular glove save on it to preserve the point for NU. "I saw when he was winding up and he did a good job of getting it through traffic," said Gibson of the shot. "But I had enough time to see it and get it." The Huskies were out-shot 10-5 in the first period but escaped with the score 1-1 as Jared Mudryk notched a goal at 17:06. The Huskies are now 13-15-5 overall and 8-9-4 in Hockey East while BU is 20-10-3 and 14-14-3. "I liked the way th eteam rebounded," said NU head coach Bruce Crowder. "I didn't like the way we played in the first but we picked it up and finished strong. We competed and played hard and anybody could've won." The Huskies faced a barrage of shots to start the game and didn't get a shot on goal until the 10-minute mark. The Terriers took the lead at 13:18 when Van der Gulik knocked in the rebound of a Peter MacArthur shot. Mudryk tied the game at 17:06 with a shot from the left side of the crease on a feed from Ray Ortiz. It was the first of two power-play goals for the Huskies. BU came out shooting again in the second period and Van der Gulik put the Terriers ahead with his second goal of the night just 40 seconds into the frame. He took a pass from Brian McConnell behind the net and wrapped around and got it past Gibson. The Huskies had several good scoring opportunities in the second but couldn't get anything past BU netminder John Curry. BU's Kenny Roche was called for obstruction-hooking after the whistle blew in the second period, setting up a Husky power-play to start the third. Things didn't get better for the Terriers as Bryan Miller was called for hitting from behind 28 seconds into the third, creating a 5-on-3. The Huskies took advantage as Morris potted the game-tying score 23 seconds later. He took a perfect pass on the left side from Steve Birnstill and got it behind Curry, who was set up on the other side. The Huskies scored both of their goals on power-plays, going 2-for-5 with an advantage. The Huskies last scored two power-play goals in one game on Jan. 14 when they tied Providence, 3-3. NU took just two penalties and held BU scoreless on both power-play opportunities. The Huskies look for their first win over BU when they take on the Terriers for the final time this season on Saturday at 7 p.m. It will be NU's first trip to Agganis Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Huskies Radio, WJIB 740 AM. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
