Deeth signs with ECHL's Utah March 19, 2007 Boston, MANortheastern University senior Brian Deeth has become the fourth Husky to sign a pro contract, as he signed on to play the rest of the season with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL, the team announced last Friday. A native of Gig Harbor, Wash., Deeth played 84 games for the Huskies over the last four seasons.
A defenseman, Deeth scored five goals and notched eight assists for 13 points over his 84 career games. He also took 51 penalties for 110 minutes in his career.
Deeth played a career-high 30 games as a sophomore in 2004-05, totalling a goal and four assists for five points along with 36 penalty minutes. He was named to the Denver Cup All-Tournament team that season after putting up a goal and an assist against No. 12 Colgate in the semifinals of the tournament.
As a junior in 2005-06, Deeth scored three goals and assisted on two while putting up a career-high 50 penalty minutes in 24 games. His most memorable goal as a Husky came on Oct. 22, 2005 at Matthews Arena, when he scored the tying goal to help Northeastern to a 1-1 tie against No. 6 Boston College before a sold-out crowd of 5,402. He played in four games, including one in the playoffs, as a senior.
In the pro ranks, Deeth joins forward Bryan Esner and defenseman Steve Birnstill, who signed with the AHL's Peoria Rivermen, and goalie Adam Geragosian, who signed with the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL. Esner and Birnstill played in four and three games, respectively, for Peoria last week and Geragosian made his first pro start on Sunday night. Geragosian made 39 saves on 42 shots but Pensacola took a 3-2 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays. Former NU defensemen Donny Grover and Tim Judy played in the game for South Carolina.
Northeastern finished the 2006-07 season with a 13-18-5 overall record and a 9-13-5 record in Hockey East. It was a 10-win improvement overall and a league-best six-win improvement in Hockey East.
