| 2007-08 Schedule/Results MacLeod named Hockey East Co-Rookie of the Week
On Friday night at Tsongas Arena, MacLeod scored a goal and had the primary assist on junior captain Joe Vitale’s goal. The Huskies rallied from a 4-2 deficit to force overtime but eventually fell, 5-4, to the River Hawks. On Saturday night at Matthews Arena, MacLeod scored twice to tie the game at 2-2 but UMass Lowell’s Kory Falite scored the game-winner in the third period to lift UMass Lowell to a 3-2 win over Northeastern.
MacLeod is having an excellent freshman year for Northeastern. He is second on the team in scoring behind only Vitale, with nine goals and 16 assists in 32 games. Vitale has a 12-22-34 overall scoring line and is tied for the Hockey East lead in league points, with 11 goals and 21 assists in 24 Hockey East games. Fellow freshman Tyler McNeely ranks third on the team in scoring with 11 goals and 10 assists. MacLeod and McNeely are the first two Northeastern freshmen over 20 points in the same season since Jason Guerriero and Tim Judy in the 2001-02 season.
Along with MacLeod, Jordan Kremyr of Providence was named Pro Ambitions Co-Rookie of the Week.
Northeastern is 13-14-4 overall and 11-12-3 in Hockey East this season. Northeastern reeled off the second-best unbeaten streak in school history, an 11-game, 9-0-2 stretch from Nov. 3-Jan. 4 and achieved a No. 7 national ranking in both the USCHO.com/CSTV and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls on Jan. 7. The Huskies were ranked in the top 20 for 16 consecutive weeks.
Prior to Northeastern, MacLeod played two seasons for the Merritt Centennials of the British Columbia Hockey League. In 2006-07, he served as assistant captain and posted 51-54-105 totals in 60 games, which ranked fourth in the BCHL. He earned first-team BCHL All-Star honors. In 2005-06, MacLeod split time between Centennials and PoCo Buckaroos of the Pacific International Junior Hockey League. With the Centennials, he played with NU goalie Brad Thiessen and registered 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points in 41 games.
