Thiessen named Hockey East ITECH Goalie of the Month
Dec. 2, 2008
Boston, MA

Northeastern University goaltender Brad Thiessen has been named the Hockey East's ITECH Goaltender of the Month for November, the conference announced Tuesday. Thiessen anchored the Husky defense, which only allowed 19 goals in eight games, including five games against nationally-ranked opponents.

Thiessen and the Huskies went 5-2-1 in the month of November bringing their overall record to 10-3-2 as they lead Hockey East with a 7-2-1 mark. Thiessen played every minute, making 238 saves for a .926 save percentage and 2.35 goals against average.

In addition, senior Ryan Ginand was runner-up for Hockey East Player of the Month and Alex Tuckerman was runner-up for Rookie of the Month. In nine games, Ginand put up seven goals and two assists and Tuckerman had three goals and six assists.

Northeastern is ranked sixth in this week's USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll and eighth in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

Thiessen started the month off strong as he and the Huskies took on No. 6 New Hampshire. Thiessen allowed just two goals on 45 shots in the 2-2 tie at Matthews Arena. That, combined with the previous night's 33-save game, earned him Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The following week, the Huskies took on the Falcons of Bentley University, which resulted in a 4-1 win with Thiessen only being forced to make 18 saves. Northeastern then topped No. 15 Vermont 5-3, and lost to No. 1 Boston University, 3-0, both on the road.

The Huskies answered back the following weekend defeating both No. 13 UNH and UMass Lowell. Combined, Thiessen made 73 saves on 78 shots (.936 save percentage). That effort earned him his second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the month.

Over Thanksgiving break, the Huskies traveled to Troy, N.Y., for the 58th annual RPI Holiday Tournament. Thiessen made 34 saves in a loss to No. 7 Princeton and stopped 25 shots in a win over RPI.

Thiessen played three seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) before coming to Northeastern. He split the 2005-06 season between the Merritt Centennials and the Prince George Spruce Kings posting an overall record of 22-21-4 with a 2.88 goals against average and a .922 save percentage, which ranked third in the BCHL. He set a BCHL single-season record with seven shutouts and posted a league-record 250:25 shutout streak en route to BCHL All-Star honors.
