Huskies' 2008-09 schedule announced
Northeastern has announced its 2008-09 men's hockey schedule. The Huskies, who went 16-18-3 overall and 12-13-2 in Hockey East in 2007-08, begin the season with the Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage, Alaska on Oct. 10 against Alaska Fairbanks and play Alaska Anchorage the following night. NU plays in two holiday tournaments and the Beanpot as well. NU's first home game is during Homecoming on Oct. 18 when NU hosts defending national champ Boston College at Matthews Arena.

Huskies add six recruits
Head coach Greg Cronin has announced the addition of six recruits for the 2008-09 Northeastern hockey season. Forwards Mike McLaughlin, Steve Quailer, Brodie Reid, Alex Tuckerman and Matt Lipinski and defenseman J.P. Maley will join the Huskies this fall. NU loses just two skaters from last season's team, which went 16-18-5 overall and 12-13-2 in Hockey East.

Vitale named team MVP, MacLeod top rookie
Northeastern held its annual awards banquet on Saturday at Matthews Arena. Junior captain Joe Vitale took home team MVP honors while freshman forward Wade MacLeod was named the team’s Rookie of the Year. Ryan Ginand earned the Huskies Radio Award as the most exciting player during Northeastern broadcasts, Jim Driscoll was named Unsung Hero and David Strathman was named Most Improved Player. Northeastern alum John Cullinane was the featured speaker at the banquet.

Vitale named N.E. All-Star, Most Improved
Junior Joe Vitale was named All-New England and received the Paul Hines Award as New England's Most Improved Player, the New England Hockey Writers Association announced on April 1. Vitale led Northeastern in scoring with 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points in 37 games. He more than doubled his previous career best of 16 points, which he accomplished as both a freshman and sophomore. He was also named to the Hockey East All-Star second team.

Mews elected to NU Hall of Fame
Harry Mews, Class of 1991, was elected to the Northeastern Hall of Fame in 2008. He could not attend the formal ceremonies due to a family obligation, so he will be inducted with the 2009 Hall of Famers. Mews finished his career at NU with 64 goals and 101 assists for 165 points and helped the Huskies to the Hockey East title in 1988.

Vitale named second team All-Hockey East
Junior Joe Vitale was named to the Hockey East All-Star second team on March 21. Vitale, the team captain, led Northeastern in scoring with 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points in 37 games. In 27 Hockey East games, Vitale put up an 11-22-33 scoring line, good for third in the league. He was named Hockey East Player of the Week three times as the Huskies went 16-18-3 (12-13-2 Hockey East), a three-win improvement.
