NU recruit Quailer selected by Montreal in third round of NHL Draft June 23, 2008 Boston, MAArvada, Colo. native Steve Quailer, an incoming freshman forward on the Northeastern University men’s hockey team, was selected in the third round (86th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens this past weekend. The 6’4, 185-pound right wing is a skilled skater who has good hands, a good shot and the ability to play in traffic.
Quailer played for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL in 2007-08 and tied for the team lead with 49 points (19-30-49) in 60 regular season games, and he finished +16 on the season. It was Quailer’s first season in the USHL, which makes his point totals more impressive since players tend to blossom in their second season in that league. He was also named to the USHL All-Rookie team and was team MVP.
Quailer is one of two current Huskies to be selected in the NHL Draft, joining teammate and Northeastern captain Joe Vitale, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
