In their first home game and America East game of the season, the Northeastern men's soccer team defeated Drexel 1-0 in overtime.

In the 94th minute of action, junior Phonethip Ketnouvong headed fellow classmate Anders Hoyem's cross past Drexel goalie Mike Haberman for the Husky victory.

The game was a defensive battle, as it usually is between these two teams. In the previous five meetings there have been a total of six shutouts. Last season both teams were credited with a blanking in a 0-0 tie that ended after two overtimes. In 1995, '97 and '98 the Dragons held the Huskies scoreless, while in 1996 NU won 2-0.

The first half was controlled mostly by Drexel as they outshot NU 9-4. Neither team was able to get a great look at the goal as both defenses were tough.

In the second half of action, both schools had a few great chances to score. Just before the 53-minute mark, Drexel's Andy Hibshman sent a header at NU goalie Allan Lewis, who made the save.

The Huskies' best chance in regulation came on sophomore LeRoy Watkins' breakaway with just four minutes remaining. Watkins and a Drexel defender got their feet tangled up causing Watkins to fall.

Northeastern is back in action on Sunday as they play host to conference foe Hofstra at 3:30 p.m. at Parsons Field.
