Senior Day was no memorable occasion for Oumar Thiam, Atha Kirkopoulos and the Huskies, who fell to America East rival Albany, 4-1, at Parsons Field in their final regular season game of the year.

Northeastern ends the season at 8-7-3 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference. The Huskies will be playing in next week’s America East tournament, but their ranking depends on some other key conference matchups this weekend. Albany will not be making a tournament appearance, and ends its conference schedule with an overall record of 6-9-2 and 3-5-1 in America East play.

The Huskies pestered the Albany defense early, and got their first good scoring chance just eight minutes into the match. In a full sprint, freshman Daniel Ivec burned two defenders on the left side and sent a perfect pass to the foot of sophomore Jeff Gannon, but his shot went wide of the net as the game scoreless.

The Great Danes would get on the board first though. With the intensity building and play becoming more physical, senior defender Ryan Bombard scored on a pass from junior Cagdas Bayram to give UAlbany a one-goal advantage at 28:43. The Huskies would answer just 47 seconds later, as Gannon capitalized on his second scoring chance, finishing off a nice pass down low from junior Michael Cipriano to knot the game, 1-1.

Junior forward Lucas Machado gave Albany its second lead of the match in the 36th minute, picking up the game-winner on a hard shot past diving goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio to give the Danes a 2-1 lead heading into the break.

The game played out evenly in the second half until the 83rd minute, when junior Savvas Theofilou put the game out of reach, rattling in a shot of the post to give Albany a two-goal advantage. Freshman Yan Gbolo would add another less than a minute later for insurance and a 4-1 lead.

The Huskies, who are likely to travel for their first round game because of the loss, play again on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Time and location are to be determined.
