A foul in the box in the 78th minute kept Northeastern from picking up a win on Saturday, as Sacred Heart's Carlos Silva converted on the penalty kick to give the Pioneers a 1-1 tie with the Huskies in Fairfield, Conn.
Sophomore Jeff Gannon put Northeastern on the board at the 18:21 mark with a blast that got by SHU goalkeeper Jason Roeder, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Jay Betley earned the assist on the goal.
Northeastern goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio was forced to make just two saves, both coming in the second half. After the early goal, Roeder held NU scoreless through the rest of regulation and the overtime periods, posting seven saves to give the Pioneers their fourth tie of the season. The Huskies outshot SHU, 17-11.
Northeastern moved to 3-3-1 overall with the tie. The Huskies are off until Thursday, when they travel to Hartford at 7 p.m. for their second America East matchup of the season.
