The Huskies (2-9-4) almost pulled a major upset over 10th-ranked Boston College (11-3-1) in a non-conference match at Parsons Field this afternoon, but lost, 1-0, in overtime. The Huskies remain winless in their last seven games.
There were several missed opportunities early in the first half. NU's best chance was a high shot by senior Andrew Hickey.
BC countered later in the half with a three-on-one that resulted in a wide shot by junior forward Uri Magden-David.
The Huskies started the second half on the offensive with a two-on-one which ended with Issey Maholo making a save on junior Daryl Brack's low shot.
Overtime was at a standstill until Eagle forward Sherron Manswell struck a ball that skimmed senior Pat Haggerty's head and ended up in front of the net. Boston College freshman midfielder Satoshi Mitsuda blasted it in with a little over one minute remaining.
NU keeper Sergio Saccoccio had three saves in net, while Maholo also had three. He left the game late in the second half with an injury. He was replaced by freshman Shane Boggis.
Boston College and Northeastern had 10 shots apiece.
Northeastern is in a must-win situation with a game at Parsons this Sunday, Oct. 31 against Hartford at 1 p.m. A win will give the Huskies a chance to receive the sixth and final seed in the America East tournament.
