Northeastern (3-9-4) defeated Hartford (2-10-4) 1-0 in overtime at Parsons Field this afternoon, keeping its quest for the postseason alive. Freshman Jonathan Show scored the game-winner.
The afternoon was also highlighted by senior day. The class of 2004 will graduate six seniors: Peter Mosconi, Aaron Birnbaum, Michael Cipriano, Jay Hanson, co-captain Joe Parrish and Andrew Hickey.
The game was filled with missed opportunities. Northeastern midfielder Jay Betley had a shot that hit the crossbar late in the first half. Hartford had equal chances, but was stopped by junior keeper Sergio Saccoccio.
The game was delayed for 20 minutes in the second half due to an injury to Hartford's Mike Pereira, who was taken to a local hospital. Pereira collided heads with senior Michael Cipriano, who also left the game. At the end of regulation, the game remained scoreless.
In the first overtime, NU had numerous corner kicks which put pressure on the Hawks. In the 96th minute, a corner kick hit the back of a Hartford defender, and Show kicked it in for his first career goal.
Saccoccio had four saves to record his third shutout of the season. Hawk goalkeeper Ryan Carr made five saves. NU held a 14-7 edge in corners.
Each team was called for 11 fouls apiece. The Huskies outshot the Hawks, 16-9.
The team heads out to Stony Brook to play the Seawolves on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. to try to end the season with a victory and make the playoffs.
