The men's soccer team defeated Vermont, 2-0, Monday afternoon at Parsons Field to kick off its America East season. The team also celebrated its 20th anniversary with an alumni game.
The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Four minutes into the second half, junior midfielder Julian Daniels ripped a 10-yard shot in the top right corner to give NU a 1-0 lead.
In the 84th minute, senior forward Michael Cipriano got free on a breakaway and slipped a shot past Vermont's David Sullivan. It was Cipriano's second goal of the season.
NU goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio had five saves to record his first shutout of the season.
Northeastern out-shot the Catamounts, 16-10.
The Huskies kick off at 3 p.m. against St. Peter's on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Parsons Field.
