The Northeastern men’s soccer team defeated Maine, 2-0, to earn its first win of the season. Freshman forward Ben Levy chipped in the game-winning goal and added an assist.
Head coach, Brian Ainscough picked up his first career win at the helm of the Huskies.
Right from the start, NU had control of the ball and made Maine play to their tempo. The Huskies struck first in the 13th minute with a through ball from sophomore Jonathan Show to Levy, who chipped the ball over Black Bear keeper, Chad Mongeon, for the first goal of the game. Not only was it NU’s first goal of the year, but also the first career goal for Levy.
Less than twenty minutes later, Levy crossed the ball from outside the left side of the box to sophomore, Greg Kilkenny, who redirected it in for his first collegiate goal, giving the Huskies a two-goal advantage.
The Huskies outshot the Black Bears 23 to 11, and eight to three on net. Senior goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio stopped three shots for his second consecutive shutout. Maine keeper Chad Mongeon had eight saves.
NU edged Maine, seven to three on corners.
Northeastern heads out to Newton on Sunday, Sept. 11 to face 23rd ranked Boston College at 1 p.m.
