The Huskies took down the top team in the CAA on Sunday, beating Drexel by a score of 2-0 at Parsons Field.

The win gives Northeastern a 6-8-1 (4-3-1 CAA) record and drops Drexel to 7-4-1 (6-2 CAA). The Huskies are now 5-1 when playing at Parsons this year.

Northeastern got off to an early lead about three minutes in when freshman forward Nick Lueders streaked up the right side of the field and was tripped in the penalty box before he could shoot. That gave senior co-captain Greg Kilkenny a penalty shot, which he knocked past Drexel goalkeeper Cory Robertson for the 1-0 lead.

"When you get a goal in the first half it really helps," Assistant Coach James Greenslit said. "We had trouble keeping possession at first, but Lueders did a great job of beating his defender to put us in that position."

Northeastern went up 2-0 when senior forward Ahmed Talaat fired a shot from 20 yards out that went off the left post and in. Talaat got in position thanks to some nifty passing in traffic by freshman forward Santiago Bedoya and senior defender Padraig Tangney. Talaat's goal was his team-leading seventh of the season.

The Huskies played a physical second half trying to fend off an attacking Drexel team that fired off 11 shots in the half. The defense held, and Mahmoud Talaat earned his third shut out of the season, making seven saves.

"The defense has been our back-bone all year," Greenslit said. "They held us together when we were struggling to gain possession."

Northeastern also did a good job of staying aggressive in the second half. The team took six shots, including attempts from Lueders and sophomore Alexander Volk that just missed.

The Huskies have now won four of their last six games and are in good position for a CAA playoff birth. They return to action on Friday at 6 p.m. to host George Mason at Parsons Field.
