The Huskies tied No. 23 Louisville in two overtimes on Saturday night in Louisville, Ky. Lewis Ehrlich scored his first goal of the season to tie the game in the first half. The Huskies defense also played very well with goalkeeper Scott Partridge notching eight saves.
"I thought we came out and played very well in the first half we had the majority of the possessions and got some scoring opportunities," said Northeastern head coach Brian Ainscough. "They took control in the second half, they made some good adjustments at halftime, but our back line held strong. Our goalkeeper Scott Partridge came up huge and made some great saves to get us into overtime."
Louisville struck first with a goal from 20 yards out from J.T. Lou Murray at 19:15. Northeastern retaliated within 30 seconds to tie the game 1-1 on Lewis Ehrlich's first goal of the season at 19:44. Ehrlich shot the ball off Louisville goalkeeper Andre Boudreaux. Boudreaux made the initial save, but the ball bounced back into the goal.
Louisville outshot the Huskies 21-6 in the game, but the Northeastern defense was able to keep the Cardinals off the board for the remainder of the match.
Partridge got the call for the first game and delivered a solid performance with eight saves. It was his fifth career game for the Huskies.
In the second half Louisville put on some pressure with seven corner kicks and eight shots, including five on goal, all of which Partridge saved. The Huskies defense held off the Louisville attack to force two overtimes and hold the Cardinals scoreless.
The Huskies are back in action on Monday at 12 p.m. against Butler in Louisville, Ky.
