The Huskies got their first victory of the season on Monday night beating Fairfield University by a score of 2-1.
Northeastern got goals from senior Lewis Ehrlich and sophomore Matt Pentowski, while the defense held Fairfield to only two shots on goal. Ehrlich’s goal was his second of the season, which leads the team.
In the first half, NU outshot Fairfield seven to two and Ehrlich finally put one passed keeper Justin Burse at 42:10 off of a free kick. Northeastern went into the half up 1-0.
In the second half, Fairfield got the equalizer from Tom Clements on a corner kick by Mike Lentine at 53:10. The two teams battled it out in the second half but the Huskies were finally put on top by Pentkowski on a corner kick from Petur Vidarsson at 76:31. The goal was Pentkowski’s first goal of the season.
The Huskies also saw good performances from junior Alexander Volk, who had three shots, and freshman Mike Kennedy, who also contributed three shots of his own. Keeper Scott Partridge was barely tested in the game as the defense held Fairfield to only two shots on goal. He made one save to add to his total of 15 on the season.
Ehrlich, who is off to a hot start, now leads the team with two goals and 12 shots in three games. The Huskies as a team outshot Fairfield University 13-6 in the game.
NU improved to a 1-1-1 record and Fairfield fell to 1-2-0 on the season. The Huskies are back in action and look to continue their success at Holy Cross this Saturday night.
