| 2008 Schedule/Results Holy Cross 3, Northeastern 2
The Huskies let one get away from them Saturday night as they fell to Holy Cross 3-2 in Worcester, Mass. NU was up two different times and as late as the 73rd minutes, but Holy Cross was able to tie it up twice and put in the game-winner in the 82nd minute. “It came down to not defending well in key situations,” said head coach Brian Ainscough. “We let up goals on a corner kick, free kick and a throw in. We just have to be more focused on defense in those situations. You can’t give up two leads in a game like that.” The Huskies struck first in the game on a goal by Lewis Ehrlich at 14:00. Ehrlich’s first shot was blocked by a defender, but he was able to put it in the net off the rebound. The goal is Ehrlich’s team-leading third goal of the season as he is off to a great start to the 2008 season. The Crusaders answered however with a goal at 36:19 on a header by Kyle Miller. The goal was setup by Alejandro Melean’s free kick from 20 yards out, which he placed nicely into the box. The two teams went into the half tied at 1-1 with Holy Cross holding an advantage in shots 6-2. The next goal came at 72:14 by NU’s freshman Mike Kennedy. Kennedy faked out the goalie one-on-one to score his first goal of the season and put Northeastern up 2-1. Holy Cross would not take long to answer and scored off two minutes later at 74:10. The goal was scored on a header by Jerry Dickinson, who also scored the game-winner at 82:12 to put the Crusaders on top for good. The Huskies were outshot 16-5 in the match and keeper Scott Partridge made six saves in a losing effort. The Huskies now fall to 1-2-1 on the season and will look to rebound from a tough loss in their home-opener against Providence at Parsons Field on Monday night.
