The Huskies got an unusual goal off the back of Lars Okland in the second half to tie the Panthers of Georgia State 2-2 Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.
The goal happened in the 65th minute when Panthers' defender Spenser Sumpter deflected the ball off the back of Okland. The ball then traveled towards the goal and hit off the crossbar and barely crossed the line to tie the game. The goal is Okland's first goal of the season and second of his career.
CAA Co-Player of the Week Scott Partridge made seven saves in the match and saw his four game shutout streak come to an end. He now has 47 saves in nine games on the season.
Northeastern struck first in the match when Lewis Ehrlich received a cross from Alexander Volk in the 6th minute. Ehrlich received the pass and fired a shot at goalkeeper Filipe Carvalhowho deflected it into the net. Ehrlich has a team-high four goals scored this season.
Georgia State got the game's next two scores one off a corner kick which was put in by Francesco Barbera at 26:54. The Panthers struck again 11 minutes later on a goal from Dathan Knott, assisted by Christopher Peacos at 37:10. The Huskies went into the half down 2-1.
Okland's rare goal was the only scoring in the second half to force the game into overtime. The Panthers went into the extra period at a disadvantage due to Peacos receiving a red card in the last minute of regulation.
In the extra periods it was all Georgia State as they outshot NU 5-1, but they were unable to score thanks to Partridge, who made four saves in the two overtime periods.
The Huskies have gone to extra periods four times this season, going 0-0-4. The four ties in nine games is already tied for second-most for a Northeastern men's soccer team in a season.
Northeastern is back in action on Wednesday when the Huskies will host Hofstra at Parsons Field at 2 p.m. The Huskies also have a home game on Saturday against CAA opponent UNC Wilmington.
