| 2008 Schedule/Results Northeastern 2, Hofstra 0
Northeastern got big contributions from its two freshman forwards as Mike Kennedy and Josh Semerene both scored in the second half to propel the Huskies to victory over Hofstra Wednesday afternoon at Parsons Field. Kennedy's goal came in the 65th minute and Semerene sealed the game with a goal in the 89the minute. The two teams played an uneventful first half as both teams struggled to get any offensive rhythm. The Huskies were without star midfielder Alexander Volk, who was a gametime decision with a groin injury. "He tested it out during warmups and he just didn't feel comfortable with it enough to play today," said head coach Brian Ainscough. "Hopefully we will get him out there for Saturday's game." Hofstra was able to put some pressure on the Husky defense late in the first half, but Partridge made some key saves to blank the Pride's offense. Partridge made three saves in the match and recorded his CAA-leading fifth shutout of the season. Northeastern came out the stronger team in the second half as they kept pressuring the Hofstra defense. Kennedy's goal in the second half was thanks to a great feed by Ryan Burnham to Lewis Ehrlich in the box. Ehrlich then crossed it to Kennedy who had an easy goal from five yards out. The goal was Kennedy's third of the season. The Huskies then got a late goal from Semerene in the 89th minute to seal the victory. The goal came when Mike Kennedy led Lars Okland into the box and Okland collided with a defender as he dumped the ball off to Semerene. Josh then beat the goalie on foot and put in an easy goal for his first of his collegiate career. The Huskies outshot the Pride 5-1 in the second half and also had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. "We really settled down in the second half," said Ainscough. "We really had the upperhand in the the game after halftime and we got two great scoring chances that we took advantage of. It's always good to get a conference win." The Huskies are now 2-0-1 in the CAA and 4-2-4 overall on the season. With the loss, Hofstra falls to 0-2-1 in the CAA and 1-7-2 on the season. Northeastern is back in action as the Huskies host UNC Wilmington on Saturday at Parsons Field at 6 p.m. Soccer Box Score (Final)
