Alexander Volk scored the game-winner in the 81st minute from midfield that made it passed the outstretched goalkeeper to give Northeastern a 1-0 win over Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, Va., on Thursday night. The Huskies (7-4-7, 5-2-4 CAA) clinched at least a fifth seed for the upcoming CAA playoffs with the win. With a George Mason loss or tie Friday night, Northeastern will host its first ever CAA playoff game. This is the Huskies' third straight CAA playoff berth. They have never made it past the first round of competition. The game was not short of offense as the Huskies were outshot 22-15 by the Rams. VCU also held an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Scott Partridge played spectacular in net by making eight saves in net on his way to his league-leading eight shutout of the season. In the first half the Huskies outshot VCU 11-9, but neither team was able to find the back of the net as they went into the half in a 0-0 deadlock. The second half only saw four shots from the Huskies and 13 from the Rams, but the only one that counted was Volk's 45-yard shot from midfield that put the Huskies up 1-0. The goal was Volk's third of the season. The Huskies also got seven shots, four on goal, from Nick Lueders as Volk added four shots with three on goal. The Huskies will play next in the CAA Quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 11 at a site to be determined. Northeastern (7-4-7, 5-2-4 CAA) vs. Goals by period 1 2 Tot
