Ahmed Talaat, a Civil Engineering major on the Northeastern men’s soccer team, has been named to the All-District Academic Second Team, it was announced Thursday.

To be eligible for academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve on his/her team, as well as hold at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. Students-athletes are not eligible until they reach sophomore athletic and academic standing.

Excelling in the classroom and on the field, Talaat has been an outstanding student-athlete. The senior forward leads the team in goals with seven and his two assists give him 16 points on the season, good for second on the team. Those numbers rank him sixth in the CAA in goals, and seventh in points. He has started in all 15 of Northeastern’s games so far this year.

Talaat’s scoring ability has been crucial to Northeastern’s success this season, The Alexandria, Egypt, native has scored in five of the Huskies’ six wins, including three game-winners. On Oct. 19th, he notched a goal with 10 minutes to go against Virginia Commonwealth that broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Huskies their first road win of the season.

Talaat attended Schutz American School with his brother, sophomore NU goalkeeper Mahmoud Talaat. He then played a year at Boston College before transferring to Northeastern. With the help of Talaat, Northeastern is 4-1-1 in its last six games and making a strong push towards the CAA playoffs.

The Huskies host George Mason on Friday at 6 p.m. at Parsons Field.
