Northeastern's all-time leading goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio joins the Huskies' coaching staff as goalkeepers coach in 2008. A four-year starter, his 7,380 career minutes are tops all-time at Northeastern and ranked No. 16 on the NCAA career list when he finished. He is also Northeastern's career leader in saves (324) and is second in career goals against average (1.25). He recorded 19 shutouts over his four seasons at NU. In his freshman year of 2002, Saccoccio led the Huskies to their first-ever America East Championship and NCAA College Cup appearance. He stopped two penalty kicks against Lehigh in the tournament, getting the Huskies to the second round. He was America East Rookie of the Year in 2002 and earned All-America East second team honors twice. His senior season was NU's first in the CAA and Saccoccio became the Huskies' first All-CAA honoree when he made the second team.
2005: Saccoccio became Northeastern’s all-time leader in minutes played, surpassing Allen Lewis’s record of 6,155 minutes during NU's loss to New Hampshire...finished career with 7,380 career mintues good for 16th place in NCAA Division I all-time....became the career saves leader surpassing Andy Boyea (1992-96) with 354 saves...recorded six shutouts this season...stopped five saves against Furman, Sept. 3 for his first shutout of the season...made seven saves in a 0-0 tie at William & Mary...named tri-captain alongside seniors Tom Heimreid and David Downing...finished the season with a .767 save percentage...his 1.25 GAA is good for second among the Husky heirarchy...recorded a personal record 12 saves against Old Dominion Oct. 14...named second team All-Conference in NU's first season in the Colonial Athletic Association.
2004: Played every minute of the Huskies' 17 games this season...ended the season with a 1.27 goals against average and .777 save percentage...recorded 80 saves and three shutouts...had a career-high 11 saves against Holy Cross, Sept. 21...recorded five saves against Vermont for his first shutout of the season...had seven saves in a tie against St. Peter's...his 5652 minutes played puts him second all-time in the Husky record book with one season remaining...third in career saves with 245...named to the All-America East second team...finished the season 3-10-4.
2003: Played every minute of NU's 21 games this season...finished the season with a 1.21 goals against average and a .750 save percentage...recorded eight shutouts...named to America East All-Championship team for play in postseason...posted four stops in a 1-0 win over top-seeded UMBC in the semifinal round of the America East Championships...made seven saves to earn a 3-0 shutout of Boston University in the first round of the playoffs, Nov. 5...had four saves in a 1-0 overtime win against Dartmouth, Oct. 28...posted five saves en route to fifth shutout of the season in 1-0 win against New Hampshire, Oct. 22...recorded five saves in fourth shutout of the season in scoreless tie with Boston College, Oct. 8...made three saves in 3-0 win over Stony Brook, Oct. 5...posted two saves in 3-0 shutout against Quinnipiac, Sept. 18...made two saves in season-opening 1-0 shutout of Holy Cross, Aug. 29.
2002: Started all 22 games in net for NU as a freshman, playing all but 29 minutes on the season...recorded all 12 wins including two shutouts and has posted a goals against average of 1.29, good enough for the fourth-best single-season mark in NU soccer history...honored as Northeastern's first America East Rookie of the Year and follows Atha Kirkopoulos and Oumar Thiam in the third straight year that NU has an All-Rookie team member...named conference Rookie of the Week twice on Sept. 3 and Oct. 14...recorded a season-high seven saves three times, including his first collegiate game against the then ranked No. 14 team in the country, Fairleigh Dickinson in a 1-1 tie, and also in the America East semifinals versus New Hampshire as the Huskies won 3-1...led NU to first ever NCAA College Cup victory, stopping two penalty kicks against Lehigh.
High School: Played goalkeeper for RVC Noga, one of the premier club teams on the east coast...was a member of the New York State Olympic Development Program and was selected to the New York State Empire team in 2001...all-county and all-conference his senior season.
