Dear Husky Fans:

Campus Recreation Expansion Announced

October is going to be an exciting month for Northeastern University Athletics and Recreation. Northeastern’s change from a commuter campus to a residential campus over the last decade has brought new and exciting challenges and opportunities for our campus recreation program. To capitalize on these opportunities, I just recently announced an expansion of our campus recreation program. We are committed to the university’s goal of becoming a U.S. News & World Report Top 100 National University, and the campus recreation expansion plan has been designed to provide increased recreational services to the Northeastern community. Our goal is to be considered one of the best collegiate recreational programs in the country.

Marino Center goes 24/7

The Marino Center is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week! To better serve the diverse schedules of the student body, we have expanded hours of operation at the Marino Center from 103.5 hours per week to 168 hours per week. This translates into 64.5 additional hours per week and 1,935 additional hours for the fall and spring semesters. We invite you to work out at your convenience. We never close. Now there is no excuse not to get your workout in, and that includes me!

Club Sports

Our Club Sports program is being expanded from 20 to 34 teams. We have elevated 14 additional teams to the club level. The additional teams are men’s and women’s basketball, cheering/dance, golf, rock climbing, sailing, snowboarding, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s squash, swimming, table tennis and team handball. Services have also been upgraded to assist club teams build on past success and compete at the highest levels moving into the future. We will strive for our club sports program to be among the best programs in the country.

Intramural Sports

Our goal is to get more students involved with intramural sports. We are creating a new competitive structure within the residence halls to develop rivalries through peer competition. Also new to the intramural program is the All-Campus Intramural Championship. Each student group will receive points for entering a team and earn points based on team performance. The group with the most points at the end of the academic year will be declared the “All-Campus Champions”. We will also be providing the opportunity for intramural championship teams to compete in extramural events at other collegiate sites.

Non-Credit Activities

We will provide clinics regarding fitness, strength, nutrition, sport-skills development and performance training to the student body. We are launching the NU-YOU program. NU-YOU is a student-centered approach to campus recreation programming. YOU choose the level of participation. YOU choose from a variety of activities, events, classes and teams. YOU provide input on potential recreational offerings and YOU make the commitment to ensure program success.

Fitness & Wellness

We will enhance the current fitness programs to offer advanced services and training to participants. Our goal is to create an atmosphere for students to get the most out of their workout time. Sign up for our fitness classes such as Ball Pilates, Cardiobox, Funk, Power Hour and Total Knock Out (TKO) or climb the mountains of the world on our new Treadwall. We offer something for everyone.
