Gilhooly, Ortlip win Hockey East honors

BOSTON, MA - Sophomore goalie Mike Gilhooly and freshman forward Eric Ortlip both received honors this week from Hockey East the conference announced on Monday.

Gilhooly was named Hockey East Player of the Week and Ortlip was named HEA Rookie of the Week. Gilhooly starred in net for the Huskies in both of their games last week, allowing just two goals and making 63 saves (.969 SV%). Against Boston College on Wednesday Dec. 6, Gilhooly held the league's top scoring offense, Boston College, without a goal for 65 minutes, making 28 saves. It was the first time in over a year that a goalie had held the Eagles without a goal. Then versus Dartmouth on Dec. 9, Gilhooly stopped 35 of 37 shots, recording double-figure save totals in all three periods including 13 in the third. Gilhooly had numerous highlight-type saves in both games, with a number down the stretch against Dartmouth to secure the victory. Over his last three starts, Gilhooly is 1-0-2 with a 1.58 GAA and a .945 save percentage.

Ortlip had two goals in Northeastern's 3-2 victory over Dartmouth, his first two collegiate goals. Ortlip scored at 4:12 of the third period to tie the score 2-2. Then 17 seconds later, at 4:29, Ortlip struck again, this time the game-winner. The freshman has played in 13 games thus far with two goals and an assist. Ortlip becomes the second straight Northeastern freshman and third this season to win Rookie of the Week honors. Trevor Reschny was Rookie of the Week last week and Scott Selig won the award twice in October.

Gilhooly is majoring in Business and is a member of the Class of 2004. Ortlip is majoring in Political Science and is a member of the Class of 2005.
