Husky alum Dan Walsh helped the United States heavyweight eight advance to the final with a win in its repechage race and former Northeastern rower Marshall Godschalk helped his Netherlands lightweight four advance to the semifinals with a runner-up repechage finish early Tuesday morning in China. The repechage race is a second-chance for crews to advance.

Video of both races is available on nbcolympics.com at this link: VIDEO COVERAGE. Godschalk's race appears at about 42:45, Walsh's race appears at about 1:12:30.

In the heavyweight eight, the U.S. won the repechage race in 5:38.95 to beat out runner-up Australia, which finished in 5:40.31. With Walsh in the four seat, the United States crew got out to a small lead over Germany, Australia and the Netherlands by 500 meters. The race was still tight at 1000 meters with the United States leading Australia by 0.30 seconds and Germany third. Australia surged and took the lead during the third quarter of the race, making it to 1500 at 4:13.79 with the U.S. 0.91 behind. The United States sprint over the final 500 was enough however. The U.S. prevailed over the final stretch of the race with Australia second and Germany third.

Walsh and the United States crew will row in the A-final of the Olympics on early Sunday morning. There will be live video crew coverage on nbcolympics.com from 3:30-6 a.m. on Sunday and the video will be archived for later viewing.

Godschalk's Netherlands crew advanced to the semifinals with a runner-up finish to Ireland. The Irish finished in 6:21.81 with the Netherlands second and the United States third.

The Netherlands crew got out to nearly a boat-length lead by the 500-meter mark and was still leading at 1000 meters. The crews from Ireland and the United States closed in over the third quarter and Ireland had a solid lead at the 1500-meter mark, while the Netherlands and U.S. were in a dead heat. Ireland won the race in 6:21.81 and Godschalk's Netherlands crew beat the U.S. by almost a boat length to hold on to second. All three crews advanced to the semifinals while the fourth-place Egypt crew was eliminated.

The semifinals of the lightweight four were scheduled for early on Thursday morning but were rained out. Godschalk's semifinal will be made up later. Check nbcolympics.com for information about live or archived video.
