Silva named ECAC Goalie of the Week
Date of Release: Feb. 27, 2001

BOSTON, MA — Erika Silva (Middletown, RI/Providence Country Day), a senior on the Northeastern University women’s ice hockey team, has been named ECAC Goalie of the Week. The announcement came from the conference on Monday Feb. 26. It is the third time this season Silva has received the award.

On Saturday Feb. 24, Silva made 29 saves in a 3-2 loss to sixth-ranked Brown. The next day, in the final home game of her career, Silva made 34 stops against Harvard in a 3-2 Northeastern win. It was the 11th time this season Silva had made at least 30 saves. After NU took a 3-2 lead early in the third period versus the Crimson, Silva closed the door on Harvard, finishing with 18 saves in the third period alone. In the two games combined, Silva stopped all 28 shots she faced in the third period. This season, Silva has made 277 saves in the third period alone, with a .936 save percentage in the game’s final period. The Harvard game was the 69th time in 95 career games that Silva had allowed two goals or less.

Silva, already the holder of nine different Northeastern records, has two more looming on the horizon. With 772 saves this season, the most in the ECAC, Silva needs just four more to set the single-season mark. The current record of 775 is held by Shannon Meyers, who did so in the 1995-96 season. Also, with 2150 career saves, Silva needs just 66 more to set the career record. That mark, 2215, is also held by Meyers.

Northeastern will finish the regular season this weekend with games at Boston College on Saturday and at Dartmouth on Sunday.
