Silva sets career save record
Date of Release: March 11, 2001
BOSTON, MA - Erika Silva (Middletown, R.I./Providence Country Day) set her 11th and final record in her career finale versus Brown Saturday March 9 with her 12th and final save of the first period. That save gave Silva 2216 career stops, breaking the mark of 2215 held by Shannon Meyers (1995-99). Silva went on to make 20 more saves on the game, giving her a career total of 2,236 stops.
During her senior season, Silva set a Northeastern record with 858 stops, smashing the previous mark of 775, also set by Meyers (1995-96). In the process, Silva became the first goalie in NU history to have two different seasons with at least 700 saves. She had 710 as a junior. In 31 starts as a senior, Silva had at least 30 saves 13 times, including four games with over 40. This does not include an amazing 59-save effort in an exhibition game against Team USA Feb. 4. Silva led the ECAC in saves and was second in saves per game (27.7) and third in games played (31). Over the final eight games of the season, Silva had at least 29 saves seven times and averaged 33.0 saves per game during that span.
Silva is also the NU career record holder for wins (61), goals against average (1.89), save percentage (1.89) and shutouts (20). She is second in games played (98) and minutes (5597). Of her 97 career starts, Silva allowed two goals or less 70 times. Silva started in net in 67 of the last 68 games for the Huskies and has been the winning goalie in 43 consecutive Northeastern victories. Earlier this year, she was named one of 10 finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Award, given annually to the top player in womenâs college hockey.
Some of her top performances from this season were a career-high 46 saves in a 3-2 win over Princeton Nov. 4. She also had 45 stops in a shutout of Ohio State Nov. 26. Silva handed top-ranked Dartmouth its first defeat of the season, stopping all 40 shots she faced in a 4-0 NU win Jan. 5. Silva stopped 38 of 39 shots in a 2-1 NU win at Providence Feb. 18 and earned her first career victory over Harvard, knocking the Crimson out of first place in the ECAC, with 34 saves in a 3-2 Husky victory Feb. 25.
Silva is majoring in Communications and is a member of the Class of 2002. Silvaâs career statistics
