BOSTON, MA - USA Hockey announced the dates, location and 45-player roster for the 2001 USA Hockey Women's National Team Festival, to be held Aug. 13-22 in Lake Placid, N.Y. The announcement was made on July 12 by USA Hockey President Walter L. Smith was the head men's coach at Northeastern from 1991-96, before leaving NU to take over the Women's National Team.
On the 45-player roster are 16 players who were members of the gold-medal winning 1998 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team, including Looney. Twenty-five of the 45 players were members of the 2000-01 U.S. Women's National Team, which trained and competed on a full-time basis during the 2000-01 season, including Looney, White and Witt. Also, joining the national team veterans are 12 skaters who have most recently competed at the college and grassroots levels.
Looney (Brownstown Township, MI) has been a member of the USA program since 1992. She scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal game versus Canada in the 1998 Olympics. At Northeastern, Looney played in 106 career games, putting together a 68-59-127 line, good for sixth-best all-time in goals and ninth in points. She was the 1993-94 ECAC Player of the Year.

She scored at least 50 points in each of her last three seasons, with a career-best 58 as a sophomore on 32 goals and 26 assists. As a freshman, Witt led NU to the 1997 ECAC Championship, scoring the winning goal in the title game versus New Hampshire and being named tournament MVP.
White (Berkeley, CA) played two seasons for NU in 1998-99, and '99-00 before spending last season with the US National Team. In both her freshman and sophomore campaigns she scored 21 points, playing both forward and defense.
Silva (Middletown, RI) completed her career as a Husky this past season and is the holder of 11 different Northeastern records. As a senior, she was named first team All-American, first team All-ECAC and ECAC Goalie of the Year. In an exhibition game against Team USA Feb. 4, 2001, she stopped an amazing 58 shots.
Whitney (Snohomish, WA) is coming off her junior season as a Husky, where she led NU with 40 points on 26 goals and 14 assists. She was named first team All-ECAC and a second team All-American. In 86 career games at NU, Whitney has a 54-62-116 line, with at least 40 points in two of her three seasons.
On August 23, at the conclusion of the camp, the 25-player roster for the 2001-02 USA Hockey Women's National Team will be announced. The team will participate in The Visa Skate To Salt Lake Tour Featuring USA Hockey, playing a full schedule of national and international games in preparation for the XIX Olympic Winter Games, to be held Feb. 9-24, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to the Games, the roster will be trimmed to 20 players who will comprise the 2002 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team.
Participants in the Festival will be divided into two teams which will participate in daily practices and compete in a round-robin tournament at the Olympic Center. Smith will oversee the Festival and selection process. All games will be held at the 1980 Rink at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid.
