Witt nets No. 88, Northeastern record
Date of Release: Nov. 9, 1999
Adding yet another highlight to an already illustrious career, NU women's ice hockey captain Hilary Witt recently broke the all-time watermark for Husky goal-scorers by notching the 88th of her career Nov. 7 at Yale.
Witt scored twice in Northeastern's 7-0 win, first tying and then breaking the old career record of 87 held by Carolyn Sullivan, who skated for NU from 1980 to 1984. Every goal she scores for the remainder of her senior season will set a new standard for generations of Huskies to shoot for. And that's not the only top mark she'll have. With 164 career points in just 114 games, Witt is within striking range of Fiona Rice's career point total of 181, the best in Husky history. She already ranks in the top five single season performances in both goals and points for a 32-26-58 line in 1997-98. Last season wasn't too far from that at 27-24-51. She's currently on pace to equal her career highs in all three categories, but will miss some playing time in December due to a brief hiatus to compete as a member of the USA Select Team.
The highly talented winger is as dedicated on defense as she is dynamic on offense. Northeastern's flagship forward has been a candidate for the top individual prize in the sport, the Patty Kazmaier Award, in the two years that it has been presented. She is expected to be nominated once again for the 1999-2000 season.
