Silva named Goalie of the Week

BOSTON, MA — Erika Silva, a senior on the Northeastern University women’s ice hockey team, has been named ECAC Goalie of the Week. The announcement came on Monday from the conference.
Silva only played in one game last week, but she made her performance count, turning aside all 45 shots she faced as ninth ranked Northeastern defeated 10th ranked Ohio State 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena. It was Silva’s second consecutive shutout and she now has not allowed a goal in her last 124:59 minutes of game action.
On the season, Silva is 6-1-0 with a 1.11 goals against average and a .962 save percentage, with a pair of shutouts. The game against Ohio State was Silva’s first since she had her streak of 43 consecutive starts stopped the day before. Silva had started every game in goal for NU since a 2-1 victory over Princeton March 7, 1999, going 29-11-3 during that stretch. For her career, Silva has a 51-15-7 record, with 19 shutouts, a 1.51 goals against average and a .936 save percentage. She is NU’s all-time leader in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts, and she is second in games played and wins and third in saves. In 74 career games, Silva has allowed two goals or fewer an astounding 62 times.
Northeastern is off to a 6-2-0 start, after a weekend split with Ohio State. Next up for NU is a home game with New Hampshire on Saturday at 2 p.m. Last season, the Huskies defeated the Wildcats in the ECAC quarterfinals 4-3 in Durham, N.H.
Silva is majoring in Communications at Northeastern and is a member of the Class of 2002.
