Dave O'Brien was named Northeastern's Director of Athletics on Sept. 16, 2002. He came to Northeastern after serving for nearly six years as Director of Athletics at Temple and for five years prior to that as Athletics Director at Long Beach State.

In his tenure at Northeastern, O'Brien has raised the profile of Husky athletics on the national scene. Implementing his strategic plan based on the Three C's (Classroom Success, Community Involvement and Competitive Excellence), student-athletes at the University have achieved unparalleled success on the athletic fields and in the classroom.

Through the 2004-05 winter season, the Huskies have won 14 America East championships and one Atlantic 10 football title under O'Brien's watch. Men's and women's basketball and men's ice hockey has increased its television and media exposure. The Athletic Department has introduced a new innovative logo. And, attendance at all venues has increased significantly.

O'Brien came to Northeastern after serving as Director of Athletics at Temple for six years. At Temple, he oversaw the operations of a major Division I 20-sport program. He was responsible for quadrupling attendance at Temple football games, which ultimately allowed the Owls to transition to Philadelphia's new Lincoln Financial Field in 2003. O'Brien also coordinated all athletic planning efforts related to the opening of a new 10,206-seat basketball arena, as well as administrative offices and a football complex.

Prior to Temple, O'Brien served as the AD at Long Beach State University from 1991-96. He was responsible for the overall administration, management and control of intercollegiate athletics, intramurals and club sports. O'Brien implemented a capital campaign drive and preferred seating program that helped fund the building of The Pyramid, a state-of-the-art, 18-story physical education and athletic events center which holds a 5,000-seat basketball arena.

O'Brien holds a B.A. from Moravian College ('78), a J.D. from Seton Hall Law School ('85), and certification from the Sports Management Institute. He has served as executive committee member and conference chair of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

O'Brien is a native of Montclair, N.J. He and his wife, Eva, are the parents of four children - Kevin, Daniel, Michael and Jimmy.
