The women's swimming & diving team saw four school records fall as the team finished second in the Terrier Invitational at Boston University this weekend. The Huskies scored 691 points to finish 199.5 points behind the first place Terriers. Co-captain Elena Alvarez led the team with 36 points and broke the school record in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.01). Emily Sutliff also contributed with 34 points as she placed second in both the 1650 yard (17:07.79) and 500 yard (4:59.84) freestyle events, both school records. Northeastern will be back in action when the Huskies travel to UMass to take on the Minutemen on Dec. 6 at 12 p.m.

NU competes at JMU pod meet
The Huskies dropped three out of four meets at a pod meet at James Madison this weekend. Northeastern lost to Old Dominion 200-153, William & Mary 235-117 and James Madison 224-128. NU was able to claim a victory against Drexel by the score of 270-77. Northeastern got a great showing from Kathrine Fugge who placed third in the 200 (1:54.79) and 100-yd (53.31) freestyles. Freshman Jill Kearns also had a stong showing placing second in the 200-yd butterfly (2:07.50) and fifth in the 400-yd IM (4:39.28). The Huskies are now 3-4 on the season and will compete next in the Terrier Invitational which takes place at Boston University from Nov. 21-23.

Huskies win two up at Maine
Northeastern came out on top in Maine winning their meets against Central Connecticut and Maine 198-91, 152-141. The Huskies got another great performance from Elena Alvarez as she won her 100-yard backstroke (1:05.83) and 100-yard butterfly (59.49) events. Captain Alexandra Doty also won her 100-yard breastroke event with a time of 1:00.72. Northeastern is back in action when they travel to James Madison on Friday, Oct. 31.

Peterson earns CAA honors
The Huskies' Rachael Peterson was named CAA Diver of the Week by the league on Tuesday. She earned the honors after her two places in the 1 and 3-meter diving events in a 170-130 loss to Boston College. Peterson scored 13 points for the Huskies in the meet. Northeastern is back in action when the Huskies travel to Maine for a dual meet with the Black Bears and Central Connecticut at 12 p.m.

Huskies drop season opener to BC
The Huskies lost to Boston College 170-130 in their opening meet Friday night. Northeastern got a good showing from senior Elena Alvarez who took the 100 (1:06.30) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.90) and also took the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.88. The Huskies are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 25 when they travel to Maine in a dual meet versus the Black Bears and Central Connecticut.

Homecoming weekend alumni events
Northeastern women's and men's swimming & diving alumni are invited back for Homecoming events Oct. 17-18. On Friday, Oct. 17, Northeastern takes on Boston College at BC's Flynn Complex Pool at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. Northeastern is holding an alumni meet, which all former swimmers and divers (men and women) are invited to participate or watch. That night, alumni are invited to gather at the Husky FanFest and the men's hockey game against BC at Matthews Arena. 2008-09 Huskies schedule released
The 2008-09 schedule for the swimming team has been released. Northeastern will follow up its undefeated season with home meets against James Madison on Jan. 10, Boston University and New Hampshire on Jan. 17 and Vermont on Jan. 24. The Huskies will also host an alumni swim meet on Oct. 18. The season will conclude at the CAA Championship in Fairfax, Va. on Feb. 25-28 where Northeastern came in fifth place last season.

14 Huskies named All-Academic
Northeastern had 14 swimmers honored with the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award for having a grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the 2007-08 season. NU went undefeated for only the second time in school history this year accumulating wins over Boston College and Boston University while beating out CAA opponents Delaware James Madison and Old Dominion. The Huskies placed fifth at the CAA Championship.

Alvarez, Doty named 2008-09 captains
Seniors Elena Alvarez and Alexandra Doty have been named co-captains of the swimming & diving team for the 2008-09 season. Alvarez holds school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, while Doty was a member of the record-setting 200 and 400 medley relay teams at the 2008 CAA Championship.
